Pre-purchase inspections in Lethbridge, AB

Know what you're buying before the money changes hands.

Northside Auto carries out pre-purchase inspections in Lethbridge on used vehicles, before you commit to buying one.

The vehicle goes on the hoist and a technician works through it properly, then you get a written report on its condition, the repairs it needs, and an estimate of what those repairs will cost.

What a pre-purchase inspection covers

Most of what decides whether a used vehicle is worth buying is underneath it, where a test drive and a walk around the lot will not get you. A technician works through the systems that cost the most to put right, and notes anything else that turns up along the way.

  • Engine performance
  • Transmission
  • Brakes, including pads, rotors, drums, shoes, and linings
  • Steering and suspension
  • Tires, including tread depth and uneven wear
  • Fluid levels

What you get back

When the inspection is done you get a report on the vehicle's condition, the repairs it needs, and an estimate of what those repairs cost.

We inspect digitally, so photos of what the technician found go to your phone alongside the report.

Buying a vehicle from another province

If the vehicle is coming into Alberta from somewhere else, two different inspections are in play. A pre-purchase inspection tells you whether the vehicle is worth buying. An out of province inspection is what Alberta requires before it can be registered here, and it comes with its own government form and its own timelines.

Our shop is authorised under Alberta's Vehicle Inspection Program, so both can be done here.

Questions

Common questions

Yes. Arrange with the seller to bring the vehicle in, or to let you bring it, and book the inspection like any other appointment.

No. A pre-purchase inspection is for your benefit as a buyer and has no government paperwork attached. An out of province inspection is required by Alberta before a vehicle from another province can be registered here, and it starts with a Request for Vehicle Inspection Form bought at any Alberta Registry Office. We do both, and a vehicle bought outside Alberta usually needs both.

You get the list, what it takes to put right, and an estimate of the cost. That gives you a proper read on the vehicle's mechanical condition before you agree on a price. It covers what a technician can assess without taking components apart, so it's a thorough check rather than a guarantee that nothing will go wrong later.
